With the scarcity of fossil fuels, all car manufacturers are trying to adapt to the technology of Electric Vehicles (EV). Not only are EVs helpful for the environment but also help reduce overall fuel consumption. Jaguar recently showcased their first all-electric concept, the I-Pace and maybe keeping the fossil fuel factor in mind, the Tata Motors-owned British automaker announced on November 16, 2016, that half of all the new Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles will be available as electrics by 2020.
Further during the announcement, Ralf Speth, chief executive officer, Jaguar Land Rover, also stated: “We are shaping the future, developing our own approach to autonomy, connectivity, and electrification to offer our customers more choice,”
Apart from all-electric vehicles, Jaguar is also planning to develop cleaner petrol and diesel engines that emit fewer pollutants. For instance, the I-Pace, which we mentioned above, is powered by two electric motors which will draw electricity from a liquid-cooled battery system, which has been developed by the company itself. The battery pack will have a range of 220 miles (354km, according to an American range measuring authority).
Last year, Jaguar Land Rover had stated that it would be doubling the size of its powertrain engineering centre which is based out of central England. This initiative was taken by the company for developing the low-emission vehicles. Recently, to strenghten its foothold, Jaguar has introduced a couple of cars for the Indian market. The Jaguar XF was launched in September in an all-new avatar, which was followed by the company's first SUV, the F-Pace.
